"It never crossed my mind that this kind of service would be for me. But the Lord certainly knows what he is doing and he is good! I receive SO much joy from those kids and their families and look forward to seeing them each and every Sunday!"
Kids Team Roles
Whatever your skills and passions, we can find a place for you to serve.
Classroom Leader
Week after week, our Classroom Leaders give their time and energy to show kids at IBC the love of Jesus. They recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of each child, making space in the classroom for everyone to experience God in their own way.
Storyteller
Every Sunday morning, our Storytellers bring the Bible to life in a way that kids can understand. From the stage, they tell the story of God and show kids how they can play a part in that story.
Welcome Team
Our Welcome Team members are the first faces families see when they walk in the doors of IBC. They help kids feel comfortable, parents feel connected, and they set the tone for the ministry on Sunday mornings.
Resource Room
Resource Room helpers work thoughout the week to ensure that Kids ministry events run smoothly. Whether it’s prepping Sunday morning curriculum, setting up for an event, or organizing the resource room—these volunteers make ministry possible.
1:1 Support
Some of the kids we serve benefit from 1:1 support. This role is for someone who has a love for kids of all developmental stages and can provide 1:1 focus and attention. Your time will remain in kids ministry spaces, and added training will be provided by Pastor Shannon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our volunteers love Jesus, and love pointing kids to him. It’s as simple as that! If you can show up consistently, care for kids well, and teach them about Jesus—you can be a Kids volunteer.
Volunteers can choose a weekly or bi-weekly serving schedule, which ends up being about 2-4 hours a month. We ask volunteers to commit to serve for a full year, but there is always room to adjust when and where you serve, if necessary. Consistency and reliability is key when it comes to volunteering with kids!
You don’t need prior experience working with kids, but you do need to have a love and appreciation for kids. We also expect that our volunteers are walking consistently with the Lord in their personal life, since they help foster the spiritual growth of the littlest members of our church.
You will receive required onboarding training which covers policies, procedures, safety, and security. We host an annual training for all volunteers, as well as sprinkle training reminders and refreshers in our weekly huddles. We take the safety and spiritual care of children very seriously, and our expectations for our volunteers reflect that.
Yes! You can decide between serving in Early Childhood (newborn-kinder) or Elementary (1st-5th grade). If you have a more specific age preference, we will definitely take it into consideration but can’t guarantee placement. Our biggest priority is to make sure all our kids rooms are fully and safely staffed.
