Child Dedication
October 27 10:45 am | Worship Center · Irving Bible Church
Why dedicate your child?
In the third verse of Psalm 127, we read, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” (emphasis added)
At Irving Bible Church, we hold fast to this biblical truth that each child is indeed a heritage, a reward, a blessing. Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Mark 10:14)” He was intentional to invite children into his presence. So, at IBC, we believe that dedicating children to the Lord Jesus is also an intentional declaration, commitment and practice.
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God ,the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that i have you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.
Deuteronomy 6: 4-7
In light of this charge to impress these commandments on your children, IBC encourages parents and families to dedicate their children to the Lord. This ceremony is an opportunity to intentionally declare and commit to teaching your children the truth, love, and grace of God. It is important to remember that dedication is not baptism or a guarantee that your child will never struggle with problems. Every child is unique and will walk a different path, which makes having others alongside you on the journey an imperative. Thus, child dedication is also an opportunity for the people of IBC to commit to supporting you, as you strive to lead your children.
Child Dedication is an important moment where IBC partners with families in establishing a regular practice of discipleship in their homes.
IBC’s Child Dedication Process
Before participating in a Child Dedication, families must attend a required class. This class will address important parental responsibilities, dreams, and realities as you raise your children. You will discuss the importance of scripture, prayer, and modeling for each child. We look forward to celebrating each child with you.
