    Week two is here!

    It's finally here — the season of Advent. From November 28 until December 24 we get to be fully submerged in stories of hope, peace, joy, and love. But — we also get to take part in our favorite Christmas traditions.

    So I did what any enneagram number 8 would do, and I asked a probing question about Christmas favorites to keep our staff on their toes. This week I asked our staff what one book they would recommend to give as a gift, and this is what they said..

    What if I don't want to read the Bible?

    After growing up in a Christian household, being immersed in biblical community, and serving and leading within the church, I found myself in a season of not wanting to participate in the "Christian To-Dos". I found it difficult to admit to my mentor and friends not that I just wasn't reading the Bible but that I didn't want to. But then, the more I talked about it, the more I discovered that for many Christians, Bible reading - especially the part of a daily devotional schedule - is one of the bid "shoulds" of faith. Many of us have been told that we should read the Bible, but we've hardly ever been told how to stick with it or why we should want to in the first place.

We have all felt the rush of dissatisfaction with our own stories when we set them down next to someone else’s only to find them doing “better than” or maybe just “better off.” Whether it is a co-worker, a mentor, an influencer on social media, or even a dear friend that appears to be closer to where we want to be, or who we want to be, we have undoubtedly felt envy, pride, covetousness, and self-pity in the wake of Comparison.
