“What happens when we create space and listen?”
If you look around on a Sunday, you might get the impression that the church is really good at two things: 1) taking up space and 2) making noise. We’ve got a big building with people and programming happening all over the place, plus we do a lot of singing, teaching, praying, and announcing. We take up space and we make noise on a regular basis—and I believe those are good things.

Week two is here!
It's finally here — the season of Advent. From November 28 until December 24 we get to be fully submerged in stories of hope, peace, joy, and love. But — we also get to take part in our favorite Christmas traditions.
So I did what any enneagram number 8 would do, and I asked a probing question about Christmas favorites to keep our staff on their toes. This week I asked our staff what one book they would recommend to give as a gift, and this is what they said..

A Invitation to Belong
I missed this church. I missed you.
I was away from IBC all summer on a three-month pastoral sabbatical, which was, of course, wonderful. My family and I had the opportunity to travel and spend time together, and I got to do more than my share of reading, writing, and letting Jesus do some work on me.

People of Light
Yesterday, January 6th, was what the church has historically referred to as the Feast Day of the Epiphany. Throughout the church’s history that day has been associated with the visit of the wise men who had come from a far-off place to visit the baby Jesus. It’s a day that celebrates the reality that, in his incarnation, Jesus came not only to be the messiah of Israel but the light to the nations, the savior of the world. For the church, Epiphany is a day of light.
